Protect Your Rights As A Parent

As a parent, you have the right to time with your child. I will help you get it.

Romantic relationships may end but parenting relationships last a lifetime. When parents separate, child custody and visitation — or parental timesharing — must be determined.

If parents cannot agree to child custody and visitation, or timesharing, courts will make determinations based on the best interests of the child. Judges evaluate a myriad of factors when deciding what is in the child’s best interests, including:

  • Current parent-child relationships
  • Interactions with siblings and other family members
  • The mental health of all parties involved
  • The effect a change in households or schools will have on the child
  • The child’s wishes

Child Support

Children have the right to financial support from both parents. In Kentucky, courts use a formula to determine each parent’s financial obligations. The amount of child support parents owe is based off of their income, the number of children they are supporting and the timesharing arrangement.

Protecting Parent-Child Bonds

When parents fight, it is minor children who suffer most.

While I am a litigator, I also know that child custody disputes have the potential to erupt into long, expensive and highly contentious courtroom battles. I help my clients use alternative forms of dispute resolution, such as negotiation and mediation, to reach mutually agreeable decisions regarding child custody and visitation.

However, if my clients’ parent-child relationships are being threatened, I will go to court to ensure they get the custody and visitation time they need to maintain strong bonds with their children.

I also help parents get child custody and support modifications when a change in living circumstances or income makes a modification necessary.
